Typically a Company will track purchase discounts earned but lost when the Company has no other debt and is not otherwise paying interest on monies. Tracking the discounts lost is handled different ways depending on whether you are using Job Costing. It takes a little more on the manual tracking side, but the best general answer is add an Other Charge Item (not a discount) and link the Other Charge Item to the Discount Account. Reasons for all of this are beyond the word limit I have here.

Question on Accounts Payable: From management's (not accountant's) perspective, what is more important - Purchase discounts earned or Purchase discounts lost? If your answer is discounts lost - how would you set up or book such purchases in QuickBooks? Louis Gutberlet

    •  Enjoyed the meeting. Picked up several helpful hints. Am looking forward to a session on POS.
    •  This class is so helpful! Diana does a great job of presenting the material and the handouts are great as well. She saves time for questions which is much needed for me. I also feel it is a valuable learning experience to learn from the questions of other businesses. Diana's temperament is so laid back that you feel comfortable asking her questions or asking her to repeat a concept you did not understand. This class is worth giving up your Saturday morning for!
